Paul Smith and Harvey Douglas first met as employees of Ocean Group company McGregor Cory in 1998, after which they launched Labyrinth in 2000.
Ruth Waring left Pearson in 2001 to launch Joanna Factotum, and met Paul in the same year. They quickly realised that there was an overlap between the two companies, but more importantly also many areas where their products were complementary.
In 2002 Paul and Harvey launched Jigsaw, and its metronomic rise quickly meant that they had less availability for Labyrinth and it’s by now well-established client base. Ruth was the obvious choice to pick up the baton, and following the merger of Joanna Factotum and Labyrinth she became the Managing Partner of the new created Labyrinth Logistics Consulting, with Paul and Harvey moving into Non Exec roles.
In 2003 Jigsaw commenced operations for Mars, and as a consequence Jo became known to Paul and Harvey. When she left Mars in 2006 to become an integral part of the Supply Chain Design Company, Jo quickly commenced a couple of projects on a joint basis with Ruth, and once again it became apparent that there were many areas in which Labyrinth and another company had complementary products and skills.
By the end of 2007 Paul and Harvey had made the decision to realise their investment in Jigsaw and relinquish day to day involvement with the business. At the same time Jo’s directors within SCDC were seeking to scale down their professional lives. It was therefore decided that Labyrinth would acquire the assets of SCDC, and that Ruth, Jo, Harvey and Paul would become equal directors in Labyrinth, and that all would hold Executive roles in the running of the company.
This new structure was launched in 2008, with a Divisional basis that enables the complementary skills of the four directors to be harnessed under the Labyrinth brand. Four white cats have already been purchased, and plans for global domination are well underway!
